One might think to the logical and literal meaning: waste time, pursuing useless and difficult task to accomplish (imagine how many girls named Maria live in Rome), however, it is more commonly used to ask provocatively if “you” are looking for trouble, probably because whoever pursues an unlikely goal is a “time-waster”, and sometimes this kind of people having nothing to do, just look for or create problems.
